Why It is Important to Wear Sunglasses?
We apply suntan lotion to protect our skin during the summer months. However, one of the most important areas of the body that need protection are our eyes. We need protection from the sun’s harmful effects.
The ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause serious damage to our eyes. These rays can burn the surface of our eyes. They also can cause damage to the internal structures of our eyes such as the lens and retina. UV light can cause cataracts to develop by gradually clouding the lenses in our eyes. When the damage becomes significant cataract surgery will be required to remove the cloudy lens and replace it with an artificial one. With the ozone layer depleting, these problems will continue to get worse.
It is recommended that sunglasses have 100% UV protection. There are many types of lenses available, including polarized ones.
